The Wish 03:01
Darling put your blue dress on, And won't you say you will Meet tonight on the edge Up on Turner's Hill There's something in the evening breeze There's magic in the air We'll ride these rusted roads 'til dawn And find it waiting there So darling if you're weary As the night just lingers on Lay your head upon my chest And the wish keeps burning on There's a darkness blowing in, my dear Across a fractious night We're riding on a hurricane Tearing down the line The anthems of our youth Blasting in on the radio And a fire burning in our hearts Now the wish it can't be broke Won't you take my hand As the world comes crashing down And I'll hold you in my heart Tonight we'll stand our ground A dream weaves through a crystal sky As I pull you near With a blessed prayer upon my lips I'll whisper in your ear So darling if you're weary As the night just lingers on Lay your head upon my chest And the wish keeps burning on Oh, I have got a wish my dear And the wish belongs to you Oh I have got a wish my dear And the wish you know is true Oh I have got a wish my dear And the wish belongs to you

Get Lucky 05:13
Close your eyes Slip away In this hazy old world which we live Too many problems and there's no solutions and no outrunning them now You put on your brave face But you're scared as hell And I'll pray that it'll come right We've been down for so long But we've always held on 'cause we've gotta get lucky sometime Let the angels sing out the old gospel songs Of rock'n'roll's sweet redemption We'll keep our heads low And baby who knows 'cause we've gotta get lucky sometime We have walked through these streets Stained in blood and tears Some tough cards were handed And though we're still standing The good times, they weren't good to us Every sweet kiss carried a tear They streamed from your deep hazel eyes I'll dry those tears baby 'cause god knows but maybe We're gonna get lucky sometime Let the angels sing out the old gospel songs Of rock'n'roll's sweet redemption We'll keep our heads low And baby who knows 'cause we've gotta get lucky sometime The diamonds of heaven slip from the night Deep into the glint of the bright city lights We'll keep holding and it won't be long 'til we're gonna get lucky sometime Open the blinds Reveal the sun Out of these shadows a new world will come Keep faith in you heart and open your eyes God only knows we're gonna get lucky sometime

The last summer blossoms Fell upon the street Like teardrops or blood drops Crushed beneath the beat Of an airless melody A dancing symphony of sound The last summer blossoms Resting in your hair Like sunlight or the stars that shine They burned a fire for you For you, for you You've got my head confused And I'm unsure which direction I should chose now And the darkness closes in It slips beneath my skin And the darkness closes in It slips beneath my skin Oh the summer's almost gone again The last summer blossoms It seems they're almost gone The slow songs The fast ones The taste left on my tongue So take my hand my dear We'll dance away the years 'til those summer blossoms Reappear again

I tried to ring you last night 'til the dialing tone died You never did answer my calls I'm still not sure why I wasn't trying to change your mind This lonely Joe's back's against the wall We followed those fevers like broken tattoos We etched beneath our skin In the warm sweaty bars, dancing in the dark Oh, how I'd drift back there again Do you remember the heat of those long summer evenings The diamonds of heaven shining like the city lights I'm driving through those streets where we used to meet I admit it still tears we up inside I guess it was a long goodbye Every boy had a girl who looked him in the eyes Who ripped him to pieces and cut him like a knife Oh Katie these wounds of mine still haven't healed While the scars will remain here for life I know next time I'll think twice Do you remember the heat of those long summer evenings The diamonds of heaven shining like the city lights I'm driving through those streets where we used to meet I admit it still tears we up inside I guess it was a long goodbye The flames we burned to ashes and dust Your words carry a sting I must live with the ghosts but what kills me most Is all that could've been Do you remember the heat of those long summer evenings The diamonds of heaven shining like the city lights I'm driving through those streets where we used to meet I admit it still tears we up inside I guess it was a long goodbye

The Edge 04:22
Me and my baby We've been thinking hard We re-lit the engine of our old classic car And ran like the heroes We saw on the screens We heard in the songs And all of our dreams We were so lost in the dark of this town Where factories tore our fathers down Marked by the faces we saw every night All of the friends who lost the fight Can you feel it now Burning through your veins It ain't the same The edge is hitting hard You can feel it in your veins Tonight we'll run down to the river And washed these sins from our hands Ever since we were young We knew this day would would someday come Now we've nothing else to lose Baby all you have to do is choose The sweat and the blood Grind 'neath these wheels The roar of the engines The chrome and the steel The taste of your lips which still drive me wild The broken tattoos which tell of your time As a lonely girl who lived on the street Wasted on kicks and all that defeat Waiting on all your heroes to come But you had to make do with me All your heroes are gone They left you on your own No Brando's gonna sweep you off your feet CHORUS And the seventies songs Blasting on the radio We had all the time and no place left to go And the seventies songs Blasting on the radio Rock and Roll don't leave me now Your best day's still to come CHORUS When you're on the edge When you're on the edge

Windows 01:17
My halo's tarnished It's dull honey next to yours My heart was wounded Tell me has yours been cured? I hate change You say you dislike it too I long for happiness I'm happiest with you, baby So sing me a sweet song And conjure your spells Maybe an old Beatles number, Or perhaps something else? I wandered the darkness But your light led me home When all of the doors were shut You opened the windows Windows

about

'Windows' is an album steeped in classic Americana imagery which completely enthralled me as a teenager. These returning images and themes are present on many of the songs - the road, the girl, the night, and perhaps above all else, the concept of young romance and innocence, and their place and power within what can often be a suffocating world.
